North of the Moonsea and south of the Tortured Land lies the broad green swale known as the Ride, which is home to numerous roaming barbarian tribes and horsemen.

This open steppe lies between the Dragonspine Mountains, the Border Forest, and the Gray Land of Thar. It is home of proud tribes of mounted barbarians who consider anyone entering their and to be fair game. Although their tribes fight often, they quickly unite against an external threat, such as the Zhentarim march on Glister in Thar in 1352 DR. Mines sponsored by Zhentil Keep and Melvaunt riddle the mountain slopes north of the cold plains.
